Health visitors are nurses who have had additional training to care for the family. Traditionally they have looked after the needs of mothers from 10 days after the birth, a point at which the Midwife relinquishes care. They are also the first port of call if you have any concerns about your child. Again, traditionally, they will remain involved in the care of your child until he/she is 5 years old.
